As a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner, you might have customers currently on Office 365 E3 licenses. Office 365 E3 has a lot of great benefits for your customers who are small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) . Rich with features, Office 365 E3 could be the perfect option for these SMB customers.

However, with Microsoft’s recent release of Microsoft 365 Business Premium licenses, you may realize that there are additional business critical features within Microsoft 365 Business Premium that your Office 365 E3 customers may need. While both Office 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 Business Premium have the same cost, these two products are not created equally: each has unique features that set them apart and make them beneficial to different types of customers. As the expert for your customers, it’s important for you to know when it’s time to upgrade your Office 365 E3 customers to Microsoft 365 Business Premium.

Does size matter to your customer?

If you have an Office 365 E3 customer with less than 300 users, it might be time to re-evaluate which license would be best for them. While the cost is still the same per-user, the additional advanced security features of Microsoft 365 Business Premium make it an excellent choice so that your customers with less than 300 users can be more secure within their work environment. Aside from seat-count, storage sizes vary between Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Office 365 E3. Office 365 E3 comes standard with 100GB of Mailbox storage which is double the storage of Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Not all customers will need this amount of mailbox storage, however. Additionally, Office 365 E3 has unlimited SharePoint storage, compared to Microsoft 365 Business Premium’s 1TB of storage per-user. In most business cases, 1TB of SharePoint storage per-user is plenty of space as file compression has become very advanced. Unless your customer is editing RAW 4k video footage daily, for example, they will not fill up 1TB of storage for quite a long time.
